The Everleaf Network has recently added a clause to their terms and conditions forbidding residents of the United States, France, and Malta from playing in their games.

The recently added rule to their terms and conditions reads

’18. No person who is resident in Malta, France and USA may open an account, play, or in any other way participate in the ELG offerings and/or services.’

This most recent withdrawl follows a disturbing trend, where poker sites don’t want to leave themselves open to the possibility of litigation.

Everleaf support hasn’t provided players in these countries any more details about what will happen to their player accounts, or when they’ll be able to play again, if ever.

Everleaf network is one of the smallest poker networks by player count, with an average player count of 390 players, however there are over 120 skins, (source : pokerscout.com).

Interestingly, Everleaf is headquartered in Malta, whos residents are no longer allowed to play on Everleaf.

Update: A representitive from Minted Poker, one of Everleaf’s most popular skins, has made a post on twoplustwo shedding a little light on the withdrawl.

The representitive explained that the withdrawl was “due to threats made to the network regarding legal action if they continue to service the US poker community.”

Everleaf managers met with their legal teams, and the Malta Licensing Authority, and decided to withdraw from the United States market. He goes on to state that all funds are secure, and there are no plans to withdraw from any other markets.

The post can be found here on twoplustwo.

Yesterday in TwoPlusTwo’s News Views and Gossip section, Barry Greenstein posted a response to claims that he owes Full Tilt money.

The following is an exerpt taken from his statement on twoplustwo
“I borrowed $400,000 to play on Full Tilt a few years ago, before PokerStars had high stakes games. I didn’t pay it back, hoping that some people who owed me and had money on Full Tilt would pay me there so I could use that against the debt. (I’m only owed about $150,000 now). I have assumed when this case is resolved, the DOJ will allow methods for dealing with debt to FTP.

Tapie Group contacted me last week and asked if I would pay them directly. Their attorney offered me the opportunity to pay in installments so I could have a chance to use money owed to me. He even offered me the opportunity to discount my debt if the US players don’t get paid in full. I told him that I have never paid less than I owe on any debt and I would rather wait until the DOJ establishes a fund for the US players. I don’t believe my debt has any impact on the sale to the Tapie group as they have alleged. I was concerned about taking money due to US players and giving it to the Tapie Group because it is understood that the Tapie Group won’t be the one paying the US players. On the other hand, I realize that the total debt counting other players is substantial, especially because I would include in that tally any money taken from FTP once it had become insolvent.”

The thread is filled with mixed reactions from the poker community, with some admiring Barry for showing solidarity with the US Players, and others simply saying he is trying to get out of his debts, and put off paying them

The thread in its entirety can be found here.

Bankroll Management is a skill that is vitally important if you want to have any sort of stability as a professional poker player.

The Heart of Bankroll Management, is that for each stake, you have a ample reserve of funds, if things go less than favorably to you.

Below we’ll list some examples of Bankroll Management by Stake, and Bankroll Management by Game Type, each bankroll is assuming you are playing No Limit Holdem.

Bankroll Management for Cash Games

Bankrolls for cash games are further defined by whether you need a Heads Up Bankroll, a Full Ring Bankroll, or a 6 Max Bankroll. As heads up poker has the most volatility, it requires the largest bankroll of the three cash games types, I wouldn’t dare to play without at least thirty buyins for the stake, assuming you’re buying in for 100 Big Blinds, in heads up its especially important to know that no bankroll in the world will help you if you selected an opponent better than you, knowing when you’re beat is an important part of poker as well.

For 6 Max I would feel okay with twenty five buyins at 100 big blinds each for a safe 6 Max Bankroll. At Full Ring 20 Buyins is fine.

Bankroll Management for Multi Table Tournaments

Multi Table Tournaments is one of the most volatile experiences in poker, going many hundreds of buyins in the negative is not an uncommon occurrence for the average poker player. Buyins in Multi Table Tournaments are measured as an Average Buyin, meaning you base your bankroll off the average buyin of all the tournaments you play in a given group, if you set yourself 200 Buyins aside, with an Average Buyin of $10, you wouldn’t be limited just to $10 Tournaments, but you could play things above and below, as long as your average landed somewhere around $10.

Echoing my previous statement, 200 Buyins for Multi Table Tournaments is where you want to be, to give yourself ample breathing room in the event of a large downswing.

Bankroll Management for Sit and Gos

For Sit and Gos, 35 buyins is where you want to be, more if the structure of the sit and gos are quick, they’ll likely be labeled as Turbos if they are, for those I would recommend around 50 buyins.

Your Bankroll should be Appropriate for the Stakes

Other Important Thoughts on Bankroll Management

If you are the fish in the game, no amount of bankroll will save you, if you’re a losing player. Be sure you are playing in games you can beat, and games you can afford to lose if things don’t go your way.

Moving Down buyins is also very important, if you start with 30 Buyins for Full Ring, and you end up dropping 10 Buyins, you no longer have a suitable bankroll for the stakes you were playing, so move down! Grind back up at lower stakes, and move back up slowly. Online poker isn’t going anywhere, taking undue risks is a sure way to the poor house.

All tournaments on Party Poker have had their rake completely removed. In what must be an effort to gain traffic from Full Tilt, Party Poker stepped up their promotions, removing all the rake from their tournaments, instead putting that money back into the prize pool.

Since Full Tilt was shut down in April of last year, the players mostly migrated to Pokerstars to get their MTT Fix, while Americans migrated to Carbon Poker on the Merge Network, unfortunately Party Poker does not allow Americans at this time, but if you are eligible for play at PartyPoker.com, sign up there using code POKERFLUX to receive a $500 deposit bonus, existing players can also use code RAKEFREE for a $100 Re-Deposit bonus, to celebrate the new promotion. These promotions are for a limited time, and expire soon, so hurry and get in on the rake free action at Party Poker.

Button : BTN

There are other names for positions, but these are the most vital, whether you’re playing Six Max, Full Ring, or Heads Up.

Under The Gun if the first to act PRE Flop, while the Small Blind is first to act POST Flop, and play continues in the clockwise manner, as you can see in most instances, the UTG is very early to act, and the Button is often the last to act, except for preflop.

It would be easy to tell you that you should play less hands from Earlier Positions, Under The Gun to Middle Position, and to play More Hands in positions like the Cutoff and the Button, but we’re here to explain why, to get you thinking about the game.

The reason you want to play more hands from Later Positions, is that you get far more information than other players, being able to see what every other player ahead of you did before you have to make any decisions is not something to be under valued, and if you have more information, you’re able to play more hands cheaper, since you can simply fold if they bet ahead of you, so feel free to play 35% of your hands in the Button if you can see the flop cheaply enough, but be careful about playing anything Under the Gun or from the Blinds, you have everyone else at the table to deal with, and you are at their mercy.

We’ll expand on the concept of Position and betting in position in later posts, for now just get yourself familiar with the basic rules of poker, and what position means in technical terms.

For now try your skills at the play money or micro stakes tables.
